Most of us remember the first time the lights went down and a story came alive in front of us.
For thousands of Kenyans, that moment has never come.
For a child in Korogocho
The theatre has always been too far and too costly.
For a blind grandmother
No one has ever described the stage.
For a deaf teenager
The story has never been told in her language.
For a young man in a wheelchair
The door was never built for him.
This November, at KITFest 2026, our 11th edition, we want to change that for 2,000 people.
They will travel to the Kenya National Theatre. They will tour the stage. Some will touch the costumes and feel the curtain; others will follow every word in sign language. They will share a meal, and then they will take their seats as the lights go down.
People who have never been to the theatre
Children from Kibera, Kawangware, Korogocho, children’s homes and under-resourced schools.
Children and adults who are blind, deaf, or living with physical or intellectual disabilities, reached through Kenya’s blind and deaf societies and disability organisations.
