KITFT Code of Conduct and incident reporting guidance

KITFT provides platforms and programs that incorporate different people and cultures from around the world. Whilst in Kenya you are an ambassador for both KITFT and for your home country and your actions should reflect and uphold the values of KITFT.

All members of the KITFT community – KITFT staff, partners and contacts – have the right and responsibility to live and work beside each other in conditions which permit open dialogue within a framework of respect.

Personal data means any information which relates to you and which can be used to directly or indirectly identify you as an individual.

All KITFT Scholars and Fellows are expected to adhere to the KITFT Code of Conduct whether in person, online or on digital media, under the KITFT terms and conditions.

The KITFT Code of Conduct supplements but does not replace codes in place at venues, airports, public and private service providers and related amenities during your interaction with KITFT.

What we expect from you

You must abide by the Kenya laws, and it is your responsibility to know what is acceptable.

We expect all KITFT community members to be treated, and to treat each other, with dignity and respect regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

All incidents of sexual misconduct, harassment, bullying, or hate crime are regarded as extremely serious.

Sexual misconduct in any form is unacceptable and is taken very seriously. Sexual misconduct includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual abuse and any conduct of a sexual nature that is without consent, including conduct online or through social media.

We ask that all community members read the social media and messaging policy in full. This sets out our expectations for conduct in these spaces programs. The KITFT Management moderates official channels listed in the policy. If you take it upon yourself to administer an unofficial online group containing members of the KITFT community, you also assume responsibility for ensuring that the spirit of the KITFT programme is upheld in those spaces.

What you can expect from us

All incidents of misconduct will be taken extremely seriously and could result in an individual being removed from the programme and/or forwarded for legal action with the responsible agencies.

Victims of crime should report this to the Kenya police. The KITFT Management may report to the Kenya police or emergency services any allegation that a criminal offence has been committed or where there is a risk of harm.

Where there has been an instance of misconduct between KITFT community members, this should be reported to KITFT immediately.

Where an instance of misconduct involves a member of KITFT Management staff, this should be reported directly to the Management of KITFT. The KITFT Management is required to report misconduct involving a member of its staff to the relevant agencies.

Information relating to allegations will be treated sensitively and confidentially to protect the integrity of the process and the ensure safety to the victim.
