Our mission at KITFest is to empower and enrich the global theatrical community through a dynamic celebration of diverse performances and educational opportunities. We aim to inspire and connect artists and audiences alike, fostering a unique and transformative experience that sparks creativity, promotes tourism and cultural exchange, and ignites passion for the arts.
The #KITFest2023 submission call will run from 9th February to 31st May 2023 for international teams, and 9th February to 31st July 2023 for local teams. The open call for international teams ends earlier to enable us to respond to any concerns on VISA needs, travelling plans and providing sufficient resources for stay for all teams.
While KITFest has its foundations in theatre, with a focus on plays, we do accept submissions from all other performing acts. Currently we feature musicals, dance recitals and poets. Any and all new and innovative interpretations of live performance in theatre are welcome.
Submission is done via the KITFest website and will reach the festival in a form format. Uploads required for a successful submission are in PDF format as guided by the application form.
There is no limit to performers per team. However, the festival will only provide meals and accommodation for up to 10 individuals. Any additional individuals costs are met by the group/company. We encourage travelling teams to keep their production lean for ease of movement and logistics.
At the end of a submission cycle, a jury consisting of a panel of experts from Kenya carefully watch and advise on each submission. Some of the qualities that favour selection include alignment with the edition's theme, capacity building opportunities for local artists, diversity and innovation in the performance.
Yes. All applications will be responded to, and a notice given for either a successful or an unsuccessful application depending on your selection status. However, detailed evaluations will only be given to teams that submit the request.
KITFest at this moment does not offer any support for associated travel costs. However, we can offer any assistance for reference letters in support of any VISA and travel grant applications. Once a team lands in Kenya, all costs with respect to housing, food and transport are taken care of by KITFest.
Successful applicants from previous years are welcome to reapply. We at KITFest foster long term partnerships and value the continuous contributions of returning teams.
