As part of our milestone celebrations, The Kenya International Theatre Festival Trust (KITFest Trust) is thrilled to announce a special Playwriting Competition. We are searching for original, innovative, and thought-provoking plays that showcase the diverse talent and creativity of Kenyan playwrights. Whether you're an emerging writer or an established playwright, this competition is your chance to shine on the international stage
The competition does not have a designated theme. All interested playwrights are welcome to submit their works on any theme or topic of their choice.
Are you a passionate playwright with a knack for storytelling? Do you have a compelling script waiting to be brought to life on stage? The Kenya International Theatre Festival Trust (KITFest Trust) invites playwrights from all corners of Kenya to participate in our prestigious Playwriting Competition as we mark the KITFest 10th anniversary in November 2025.
1. Announcement: 1 st July 2024
2. Submission Deadline: 31 st August,2024
3. Winners Announcement: November 2024 (during KITFest2024)
4. Publication of Winning Plays: November 2024 5. Commissioning of
winning plays: March, 2025
6. Staging of Winning Plays: November 2025(during KITFest2025)
1. 10 Best Plays will be selected as winners.
2. Each winner will receive a cash prize of Kes. 100,000.
3. Winning plays will be published by Theatre Publishers, a
publication company owned by the Kenya International Theatre Festival
Trust.
4. By entering the competition, playwrights agree to their plays being
published in November 2024 and produced as part of KITFest2025.
1. Submissions must be original, unpublished works written in English.
2. Plays must have a running time of 60-120 minutes.
3. Each playwright may submit only one play for consideration.
4. Plays should explore themes relevant to contemporary Kenyan
society.
5. Submissions must be formatted according to industry standards (PDF
or Word format).
6. Please include a cover page with the play's title, yourname,
contact information, and a brief bio.

2. Please attach your play as a PDF or Word document.
3. Include your contact information and a brief bio in the body of the

All submissions must be received by August 31, 2024. Late entries will not be considered.
