The main festival happens in early November each year. However, KITFest has several programs that run throughout the year including the County Tours which are part of the main festival, but run in the months preceding the November event.
First, you must apply to be considered for participation. A call for application is made prior to the festival, where we receive applicants from all over the world for a highly competitive selection process. Once selected, communication is made and participation plans are initiated. Check out our public media regularly for the call.
KITFest has one main logo as shown on the website’s navigation bar. However, each year we have a different festival visual theme that celebrates the most outstanding team/individual during the previous edition. This was first instituted in 2020 to honour the acts that influence the festival majorly through their participation.
The Kenya International Festival Trust (KITFT) is the legal entity managing the Kenya International Theatre Festival (KITFest). As an organisation, KITFT has other theatre-based products and platforms including Kenya Theatre Awards, KITFest Stager and Theatre KE in collaboration with The Kenya Cultural Centre. for more information.
While most festivals across the world are competitive and winners are awarded in the end, KITFest is different in nature. This is a global thespian community celebration of theatre and our focus is on sharing knowledge, collaborations, tourism and fun activities that enhance the social and artistic aspects of theatre.
